Town Votes To Ban Plastic Water Bottles
07/09/09 - Odd Articles

“A town has taken the unprecedented step of banning plastic water bottles. Residents say the containers are bad for the environment and are taking their stance for ‘moral reasons’. The decision was made yesterday at a public meeting in Bundanoon in Australia. Instead of buying plastic bottles of water, anyone with a thirst will be encouraged to take a reusable container to a free water fountain in the high street. The move was originally designed as a protest against a bottling firm which wanted to use a local bore to extract water and sell it off. But campaigners also objected to the carbon footprint associated with bottling water and trucking it around the country, as well the amount of litter it generated.” w/ photo
