Man Evicted From Shack

“A local man was arraigned today in Gardner District Court after being arrested and evicted this morning from a shack he built on land he claimed at Cross and Hubbardston roads. Raymond C. Brouillet, 53, a homeless resident of town, was arraigned on a charge of trespassing and released on personal recognizance to appear Jan. 5 for a pretrial hearing. In releasing Mr. Brouillet, Judge Patrick A. Fox ordered that he stay away from the land where he built his shack and had been living for the past week. Mr. Brouillet was arrested after he barricaded himself in his shack this morning and refused to leave when police came to remove the building from what they say is town property. Police had to smash in the door to remove him, but he went quietly after the door was opened. In court, Mr. Brouillet refused to have a lawyer appointed to represent him and said he was also not going to represent himself. He said he did not want a lawyer to speak for him. He also said he did not need to represent himself, because he is himself.” w/ photos
