Hole Opens Up On Packed Passenger Plane

07/15/09 - Shocking

A passenger jet was forced to make an emergency landing after a foot-square hole opened up in the cabin mid flight. Southwest Airlines inspected about 200 planes overnight after the hole appeared in the passenger cabin of the Boeing 737 plane, forcing an emergency landing in West Virginia. Passengers said they could see right through the hole as the cabin lost pressure during the flight on Monday. No one was injured on the Nashville-to-Baltimore flight which carried 126 passengers and five crew members. Brian Cunningham told NBC’s “Today” show that he had dozed off in his seat in mid cabin when he was awakened by “the loudest roar I’d ever heard.” ‘It took me a couple of seconds to wake up. I got the baseball cap out of my face and I look up and there’s the sun coming through the ceiling… I saw sky where I shouldn’t be seeing it.” w/ photos

Jackie Loved RFK

07/07/09 - Shocking

She had already suffered the torment of losing one man she loved. And sitting at the hospital bedside of her brother-in-law, Jackie Kennedy was about to lose another. According to a new book, the widow of President John Kennedy had a steamy four-year affair with his brother Bobby. The relationship was so intense that when Bobby was gunned down during his 1968 presidential campaign, it was Jackie – and not his wife Ethel – who instructed doctors to turn off his life support machine… Heymann, who claims to have trawled through FBI and secret service records as well as talking to Kennedy family and friends, says Bobby was the former First Lady’s one ‘true love’. He says their romance grew from their shared grief over the assassination of John Kennedy in 1963.” w/ photos

Supermarket Salads Are Not Good For You

06/27/09 - Shocking

Some supermarket salads contain more fat and calories than a Big Mac and fries. Those hoping to enjoy a summer salad as part of a healthy diet could be in for a shock. Many on sale at leading stores are more unhealthy than a diet of fast food and chocolate, research by Which? found. The consumer group says its findings emphasise the need for clearer nutrition labeling on food packaging. While a Big Mac and medium fries will provide you with 820 calories and 40g of fat, the Smedleys Atlantic prawn marie rose salad, from Morrisons, contains 855 calories and 66.3g of fat. The salad’s fat level is 70 per cent of the recommended daily amount for a man. Eating too much fat can increase the likelihood of clogged arteries and heart disease, and has been shown to raise the risk of cancer.” w/ photos

Dead Mouse Found In Curry Sauce

06/18/09 - Shocking

“When Cate Barrett brought a $1.49 jar of tikka masala sauce from her local Asda store, she was expecting it to contain a bit of a kick. But what she wasn’t expecting to find was the dead mouse which had somehow ended up in the jar – along with the rest of her favourite sauce. The nursery worker had begun making dinner for herself and her boyfriend, Nigel, when she poured the sauce into the pan, and noticed it was a little lumpy. As she began stirring the sauce through, she noticed what looked like whiskers and a tail – and immediately knew it was a dead rodent.” w/ photos

Mother Duck Steps On Her Baby

06/16/09 - Shocking

Like most mothers, this duck is probably getting tired of telling her brood not to get under her feet. But at least one of them hasn’t been listening. The duckling was soundly stepped on when its busy mother shepherded the youngsters out of the way of an approaching swan. The duckling sprang back up, fluffing up its feathers indignantly before trailing after its siblings by the River Avon in Christchurch, Dorset.” w/ photos

Earth Could Collide With Mars

06/14/09 - Shocking

A wobble in the precise clockwork of the solar system could see the Earth collide with Mercury, Mars or Venus, scientists predict. But they say reassuringly that such a mishap is unlikely to occur for billions of years. The orbits of the planets are not completely stable because of the gravitational interplay between them. Over time, the system can become increasingly disordered – like a poorly balanced tyre that eventually tears itself off the axle of a moving car. In a similar way, planets can end up being flung out into space, diving into their parent star, or smashing into each other. Two French scientists have now calculated the chances of our solar system falling apart within the Sun’s remaining lifespan of about five billion years.” w/ photos
