Dead Giant Blue Whale Washed Up On Shore

“This the tragic sight of the largest mammal in the world – a majestic blue whale – washed ashore after being struck and killed by a passing ship. The 70-foot female was found on the Northern California coast on Monday night with two gashes on her back – one that was eight feet long. She was spotted on the shore near Fort Bragg in Mendocino County hours after an ocean survey vessel reported hitting a whale a few miles away, said Joe Cordaro, a wildlife biologist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s marine fisheries service. ‘I was personally jazzed just to see the animal,’ said Thor Holmes, a lecturer in mammography at the school. The whale had two gashes on its back – at least one of which was deep enough to cut through the blubber down to the vertebral column, Holmes said. One gash was eight feet long. It’s unusual for blue whales to wash ashore, Cordaro said. Last week, another blue whale washed up in Monterey County after being hit by a ship.” w/ photo

But this scene is far darker: This is the shocking aftermath of a crash that killed 21 people when a speeding passenger train rammed another train’s rear carriage from behind. The carriage was reserved for women and disabled passengers. Another 17 people were injured. They remained trapped for hours on Wednesday near the Taj Mahal in northern India, police said. The tragedy occurred early today when one of the trains, the Mewar Express, was stopped at a red signal. The other train rammed into it from behind, officials said. ‘We felt a massive jolt,’ said Ramesh Charan, a passenger aboard the Mewar Express. ‘Some people sleeping on upper berths fell to the coach floor by the impact of the collision.” w/ photos

Duck Shot Through Head With Nail Gun

“A duck had to undergo emergency surgery after surviving for several days with a 4in nail embedded in its skull. The bird, called Tully by vets, had been shot through the head with a nail gun. But it took rescuers three days to capture the creature, who had the nail sticking out from both sides of its head. The duck was then rushed for emergency surgery at a vets in Devon Meadows, Victoria, in Australia. After giving Tully an anaesthetic, vets were able to remove the nail which had pierced his head just 4mm from an eye. The female tan and black striped feline was found wandering the streets of Philadelphia wrapped head to foot in duct tape – that most powerful of all tapes. Lucky for her, she was spotted by a woman who promptly called the SPCA yesterday. A humane officer from the SPCA found her wandering the Rhawnhurst section of Philadelphia and carted her up to safety. The tape was wrapped around her from her neck to her tail.
