“Ants use tiny compasses in their antennae to make sure they don’t get lost, a new study has shown. Researchers say the insects use the built-in magnets to align themselves with the earth’s magnetic field when making long journeys. The findings mean ants join a select group of animals – including birds and trout – which have been shown to use magnetic crystals in their bodies to migrate.” w/ photo
