Photographer Gets Too Close To Crocodile

“Camera in hand, she was poised to capture a close encounter with a crocodile. But no one at the river cruise booking office warned her it might be this close. The previously inert reptile suddenly shot from the river and snapped its jaws shut inches from the tourist’s face, before disappearing back into the murky depths. The woman’s extraordinary brush with death came during a cruise up the Tempisque River in an area of Costa Rica popular with British tourists. A guide on board the boat had tried to liven up the docile crocs by tapping a stick in the water. Louise Brown is 91 and partially sighted but that doesn’t stop her reading at least a dozen books a week. Library staff at Stranraer, in Dumfries and Galloway, reckon the pensioner’s epic haul over 60 years could earn her a place in the record books.
