Solid Steel Marionette

05/01/09 - Pretty Cool

Made from 100% solid steel scraps, intercepted on the way to be recycled. The Marionette hangs from a halogen ceiling light fixture, and so he has his own spotlight wherever he goes. He is not painted at all, rather, the color comes from a heat treatment, which provides a subtle variation between various shades of gray, brown, silver, and blue.” w/ photos

Inflatable Bubble-Dome Party

05/01/09 - Pretty Cool

“The pavilion is comprised of an inflatable bubble-like dome that emerges from its self-contained compressor housing. The dome expands and organically adjusts to its surroundings, be it in a field, a wooded park, or below a highway overpass. The material is a sturdy, specially-designed translucent plastic, allowing the varying events taking place inside of the shelter – dance parties, lecture series, or dinner buffets – to be entirely visible from the outside and likewise the exterior environments become the events’ backdrops. The end result is amazing, as you can see on these photos taken by Alan Tansey.” w/ photos

“You might have seen the leaked Wolverine Movie, but you haven’t seen this bizarre behind-the-scenes footage of Hugh Jackman struggling with his performance in the new X-Men: Origins film! Apparently, the actor’s song and dance impulses were a challenge to overcome during the filming of the movie. The Musical is Back!”

The Showjumping Rabbits

05/01/09 - Odd Articles

For the average pet rabbit, the daily routine involves nothing more strenuous than chomping on a carrot. But life is very different for the Haslam household’s six showjumping bunnies. Under the guidance of twins Mathew and Thomas, they have learned to leap over miniature fences in the back garden. The 15-year-olds, who live in Doncaster, have owned rabbits for nine years, but decided to teach them to ’showjump’ after being inspired by a video on the YouTube website. They set up obstacles in their garden and encouraged the pets to bounce over them by leading them on a leash. Now Bubbles, Lilac, Cuddles, Apple, Muffin and Beefy will be among the competitors at the Ultimate Pet Show at the NEC Arena in Birmingham tomorrow.” w/ photos

05/01/09 - Top Lists

“All too often on comedy shows, the children are there as virtual props. Sure, they walk and talk, and recite their lines, but are they usually funny? No. In fact, they’re more likely to be annoying. Only a select few played their parts so well that their natural talents to make people laugh fit in perfectly with the scripts. Here are ten talented people who deserved the roles in which they played.” w/ photos + videos
