Giant Baby Robot

“Sculptor Kenji Yanobe’s Giant Torayan robot, a 7.2-meter (24-ft) tall mechanical baby that sings, dances and spits fire, was sighted in Tokyo’s Roppongi district last night. The fire-breathing robot spent the night on center stage at “Roppongi Art Night,” an all-night event featuring installations and performances by dozens of artists at various venues in Roppongi.” w/ photos
8-Bit Gaming Computer

“This bare-bones looking “TV Computer” is based on the same 1MHz 6502 processor chip that powered many of the great 8-bit systems of days gone by. And like the home programming movement of the 1980s, the guys over at Playpower.org are encouraging the use of these cheap imports for the development of homebrew and open-source apps, to spur computer-aided education in developing countries.” w/ photos
The Original Genius Chimpanzee

“Long before Pan-kun became a star on Shimura Zoo, there was another famous performing chimp on Japanese TV: Momo-chan. A chimp from the Nasu World Monkey Park, Momo-chan was raised like a human child by animal trainer Atsushi Miyazawa and appeared regularly on the TBS program Amazing Animals (Doubutsu Kisoutengai) until about 5 years ago. The final episode of Amazing Animals will air next Sunday night, so the last few episodes of the show have been highlighting some of its greatest moments. The previous episode had a special section about Momo-chan. Here’s a clip showing Miyazawa raising her and teaching her some really neat tricks.” w/ videos

Japanese Garbage House

“Comedian Yoshio Kojima uses his celebrity charm to get permission to film inside a gomi yashiki (”garbage mansion”): Kojima is greeted with a truly horrid sight. Garbage is everywhere, making it very hard to walk through the rooms. Some of the filth is old food that has long since rotted. The old woman who owns the house doesn’t seem to realize just how terrible it smells.” w/ videos
