New Gel-Filled Army Helmet

“On the face of it a layer of orange jelly may not sound the best way to protect a soldier’s head from high velocity bullets and shrapnel. But the British Army’s standard-issue combat helmet is set to be upgraded with a liner made from gooey miracle gel, which responds to a sudden impact by locking instantly into a solid form – absorbing huge amounts of energy harmlessly. A UK-based technology company was today celebrating a $126,975 contract from the Ministry of Defence to develop its D3O shock-absorbing gel to help save the lives of British troops fighting on the frontline in Afghanistan.” w/ photos

“Stanley Murphy took a wrong turning as he went out for his morning paper on his mobility scooter, and found himself on a dual carriageway. Cars sped past at 70mph as 90-year-old Mr Murphy trundled along at a maximum speed of 8mph on the busy six-lane road. The Cat Flip

“What a fantastic yet simple invention “the cat flip”. As your cat approaches the bowl and steps on the lever, the dome shaped perspex lid opens to expose the food. Your cat can then feed at its leisure until he moves away from the bowl, the lid then gently lowers over the bowl keeping the food inside fresh. The bowl can be placed outside as the lid protects the contents from vermin and flies, also if left in your home the lid prevents embarrassing fish smells. The bowl is fitted with rubber bungs on the base to prevent any movement of the bowl, it can also be dismantled easily enough for cleaning.” w/ photos

The man reportedly put his arms around the girl. When she woke up and screamed at him, he fled. The suspect in this case was described as a Hispanic male, 5′11″ to 6 feet tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a 3/4 length wool jacket and blue jeans. The girls who live in the N Street row house are familiar with reports of other similar incidents in the neighborhood around the Georgetown campus, involving the so-called “Georgetown Cuddler.” w/ photo + video
Chinese Woman Puts Her Life Online

“Chen Xiao had pretty much given up making her own decisions and so decided to throw open her life to the whims of China’s hundreds of millions of Internet users, known in China as netizens. “It’s your right to arrange Chen Xiao’s life, and it’s my obligation to serve you,” read her online shop. Since December, Chen has been allowing others to decide what she will do each day, because, for the most part, last year was awful, she said. Her hometown was hit by blizzards, her country rocked by a devastating earthquake, friends divorced and her clothing shop went bankrupt. “Every time I had a plan for what I wanted my life to be like, nothing would come of it. It was very disappointing. I figured if other people came up with things for me to do, I might stumble upon something new and better.” w/ photos + video
Top 10 Deaths Caused By Video Games

“Video games have become sleeker, harder, faster, and better to an exponential degree in the last 10 years. This has been mostly awesome, but the increased intensity of games has yielded an echo of similarly intense behavior in those that play the games. Sometimes this behavior goes well beyond throwing one’s controller across the room. At the far end of this spectrum are 10 deaths caused by video games.” w/ photos
